Right now in Jefferson City there are 10 bills that have been introduced by various legislators with connections to the breeders and their interest groups to repeal and amend Proposition B -- the Missouri Puppy Mill Cruelty Prevention Act.
In fact, a House committee two weeks ago was considering ways to cancel the election results, repeal the law, exempt existing breeders or eliminate provisions of the law prohibiting dangerous overcrowding in cages, protecting dogs from bad weather and providing them veterinary care when needed. In other words, gut most or all of Proposition B.
The legislators are trying now to figure out the best way to nullify the law that the people passed. This law was passed by Missouri voters, and I find it most disturbing they question our intelligence. If we do not speak up, they will continue to take our rights away little by little.
The only solution I know of is to call your legislator and let them know they need to abide by the will of the people. The people went through the proper channels in the state constitution to get Proposition B voted on. Proposition B is fair and asks only that dogs are properly taken care of.
To contact your legislator, go to www.moga.mo.gov and click on legislator lookup.
