One of the most formal affairs in Cape Girardeau is Saturday's 26th annual Cure for Cape Cancer Gala benefiting the American Cancer Society.

With so many connected to this disease personally or through a family member or friend, the gala has become a successful affair combining style with a good cause. Cape Girardeau also is a hub for medical care, with cancer specialists associated with both hospitals treating patients from the area.

This year's theme is Samba for Life. In addition to dinner, there will be music provide by The Intention, dancing, auctions and other festivities. Proceeds help support the American Cancer Society's education programs and provide assistance to those battling the disease with items such as wigs as well as transportation and lodging.

Anyone who has faced this disease knows the importance of the American Cancer Society. The assistance and emotional support provided are key when facing this challenge.
