Crowell's pro-life record is strong

To the editor:

I am writing in response to the sad display of politics by state Rep. Matt Muckler, a Ferguson, Mo., Democrat. Muckler misrepresented to you that I worked against pro-life legislation.

The fact is that Muckler controlled whether his amendment was a roll-call vote or voice vote, so he had the power to save his amendment. The underlying bill, House Bill 1339, is an important pro-life measure that I support, and I called it to a vote to block the efforts from Muckler's party leaders to kill the legislation. I am a passionate supporter of legislation protecting life. The Missouri Right to Life and Missouri Catholic Conference have endorsed my candidacy every year for my pro-life leadership in the legislature.

I led the effort last year to override Gov. Bob Holden's veto of pro-life legislation, working across the aisle with Muckler. It is sad and pathetic that in an election year Muckler is choosing politics over the pro-life movement and unborn children by attempting to defeat fellow pro-life legislators.

Muckler may be pro-life, but his party leaders will do anything to silence those of us who value the sanctity of life and oppose abortions. I maintain my commitment to advocate pro-life issues in the legislature, working with legislators from both parties. I believe that it is wrong to play politics with an issue as important as the sanctity of life.
