I agree with Robert Polack's letter. Manufacturing jobs have been declining or have been cut back. Companies have been laying off workers making higher wages. Then they hire workers for peanuts. They no longer believe in keeping the hard worker or loyal worker.

My husband was a victim of this type of corporate thinking. He was laid off in June. He found out that another person hired two years after he was kept his job. My husband was laid off without any explanation. He is having a hard time understanding why he was laid off. He still believes that working hard, showing up on time and following the rules are the best ways to keep a job. But it doesn't work like that anymore. It's all about money and how much can go into corporate pockets.

Polack is right. A single person can't live on $6 an hour. You can't even afford rent for a run-down trailer making that kind of money, let along vehicle and utility expenses. But companies want you to have a vehicle to get to work. Where I live, there is no public transportation.

Companies know how to keep the poor living in poverty to keep them coming back for jobs.
