The Central High Marching Band has reason to toot its own horn.
The band has just completed its most successful marching band competition season in its history.
It is quite an accomplishment considering the band is more than 100 members strong. The success is a tribute to Central High's music program, dedicated "coaches," hard-working students who practice before, during and after school, and the many steadfast band boosters.
Marching band requires many hours of practice before the start of school and each week during the season. This year's success is closely linked to a nearly 99 percent attendance rate by all members at all practices. That is impressive.
The band ended its season Saturday with a first-place win in its division at the Trans World Dome in St. Louis. The band also won outstanding marching performance for its division.
Of the five major competitions this year, the band took first place in four. It came in a close second in the other contest, which represents a practical sweep for the Marching Tigers.
At Thursday's football game, the band will recognize the seniors and display its array of trophies. It will mark a good opportunity for the public to show its appreciation as well.
