A new resource for our friends and neighbors in need will soon be available. A new resource for our friends and neighbors in need will soon be available. Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri is opening an office in Cape Girardeau across William Street from St. Mary Cathedral. The office will provide assistance for anyone in need, not just Catholics. In addition, the St. Mary food pantry will be relocated to the Catholic Charities building. The food pantry serves more than 800 families a month and now will be able to expand.

Catholic Charities plans to provide case management and counseling services in Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Madison and northern Scott counties from the new Cape Girardeau office. Among the services to be offered are meeting immediate needs such as food and shelter along with guidance in financial management and access to continuing education.

A new director for the outreach effort here is expected to be on board by next month.

This new effort to reach people who seek assistance represents a major and important addition to the many community services already available in this area. Catholic Charities is to be commended for recognizing and addressing the various forms of help needed to make life better for many individuals and families.
