To the editor:
It was fantastic to hear that the Miramax film "Killshot" may be shot in our community. But some of us in local filmmaking were wondering why the Cape Filmmakers Cooperative wasn't given the simple courtesy of a heads up on the possibility of a feature film being shot in our community. Why weren't we involved at all?
It would have been gracious if our filmmaking membership, some of whom are SAG and IATSE members and Missouri Film Commission scouts, would have been told about the possibility without having to read it in the paper first. It also would have been considerate if the people who make movies in Cape Girardeau and are working to promote filmmaking in the region would have been involved somehow.
The CFC and its 300 members are a talent that should not be sidelined or minimized. We could be a great resource if this venture comes to pass. We have the professional talent, filmmaking experience and the drive to give our best to such projects. It's a shame that the film community of Cape Girardeau was ignored.
We would still like to participate, if possible. We love movies and filmmaking. It hurts when you have worked so hard to make something like this happen in your community and you are out of the loop while others, not part of filmmaking at all, are calling the shots.
MICHAEL HUNTINGTON, Co-chairman, Cape Filmmakers Cooperative, Cape Girardeau
