Capahas' season

After a long, hot summer the Plaza Tire Capahas season has come to a close after losing their first two games at the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan.

Losing the first game of the 32-team double-elimination tournament 7-3 to the St. Joseph (Mo.) Mustangs, a game that started at 10:28 p.m. last Sunday, the team exited the tournament 15 hours later losing to the Austin (Texas) Gold Sox in the bottom of the ninth inning 7-6.

Despite the early exit, the season has been full of positives. The appearance at the annual tournament in Wichita was the 30th consecutive for the Cape Girardeau team, and the Capahas ended the season with a record of 23-7.

This season started on a positive note even before players crossed the chalked lines of Capaha Field. In January Jess Bolen, whose 45-year managerial career of the team includes a record of 1,407-379, was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. The longtime manager and former Capahas player, along with his wife, Mary, have a remarkable passion for the game of baseball, especially Capahas baseball.
