Nine-foot-tall hair trees? Haircuts by blindfolded stylists? Twin girls woven together with 10 feet of hair?

A fund raiser on tap tonight in Jackson is nothing less than novel. The Style Stop Impact salon is hosting "The Collection Theatre" at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

The event will benefit three deserving causes: the Safe House for Women, the new Southeast Missouri Network Against Sexual Violence and the Jackson School District's fine arts department.

This is only one of example of many worthy fund raisers sponsored by beauticians and hair styling shops throughout the region. But this is certainly one of the most innovative benefits to come along. Organizers deserve credit for dreaming up such an unusual show.

About 100 men and women will model "bizarre and artistic" live hair creations. Some will wear electric hair and clothes. Also planned is an indoor coon hunt.

Tonight's event seems an entertaining and intriguing way to raise money for several worthy community causes. It also makes one pause to wonder: How can they top it next year?
