To the editor:
Jim Krewson's blind faith in the Bush administration doesn't stand up to close scrutiny. Citing an opinion is not proof.
While 70 percent of Americans supported the war, 70 percent of the world's population was against it.
What that proves is that people who weren't influenced by a desire to support their president during wartime didn't believe the administration's claims.
The civil case ruling of Judge Harold Baer was made without any defense argument. Civil cases have a very low burden of proof. Court rulings are never considered definitive proof but, rather, legal opinions.
While it is true that there have been several stories in the media claiming evidence of a connection between Iraq and al-Qaida, without fail they have been followed up by stories that demonstrate that the claimed evidence was false or, worse yet, falsified.
It has, however, been widely conceded that, as a result of President Bush's war, the mismanaged Iraq under occupation has become a hotbed of terrorism.
Krewson ends with the absurd accusation that anti-war activists are motivated by "political reasons" or "hate for our president."
Being involved in the political process is a requirement of citizenship. I don't know Bush personally, so I don't hate him.
Looking at Bush's track record of deceit, destruction, cronyism and mismanagement, I have concluded that his policies are completely reckless and, if unchecked by the political process, will lead this country to far worse straits than any attack from al-Qaida ever could.
