For the second time in the 14 years the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce has honored local industries, BioKyowa Inc. was named the recipient of the Commitment to Excellence Award at the annual industrial appreciation dinner this week.
BioKyowa first located in Cape Girardeau almost 20 years ago when it began producing feed supplements for swine and poultry at its plant on Nash Road with some 60 employees. Now BioKyowa has about 200 employees and has expanded the products produced here. Kyowa Food Inc. makes food seasonings in a new 32,500-square-foot facility. Both BioKyowa and Kyowa Food are subsidiaries of Kyowa Hakko Kogyo, a Tokyo-based manufacturer of pharmaceuticals, food, agri-chemicals and liquor products in Japan.
Each year, the chamber industrial appreciation banquet salutes area industries that provide jobs for thousands of workers. These industries are the foundation of the sound economy this area is so rightfully proud of, along with our medical and educational facilities and a ever-growing retail base.
Cape Girardeau is a better place to live, work and play, thanks to forward-thinking industries like BioKyowa.
