The Hypsibema missouriensis is well on its way to being our state's official dinosaur. This has come about due to the hard work and dedication of state Rep. Rod Jetton, R-Marble Hill. Now the Senate can spend some time on this monumental issue. We are kidding about the monumental part and wish we were kidding about the whole deal.

The distance between the money needed and the money on hand to run state government is about as far as the distance between caring about having a state dinosaur and reality.

We don't know about Marble Hill, but we know at Lake of the Ozarks Missourians tend to be concerned with taxes, roads, schools, prisons and other mundane matters that make some difference in people's lives.

Jetton says having a state dinosaur will be an important education tool. So would keeping teachers in classrooms and buildings open on campus.

This is a stupid waste of time and money. We need a state dinosaur about as badly as we need nonsense like this taking up time in the General Assembly.
