I just finished reading Bob Miller's story on Ben Rushin. I still have tears in my eyes as I am writing this note.

I have known Ben and Richard Rushin for about year now. I met Richard through a mutual friend. I coach in the JAYF football league with the mutual friend. Our friend explained to me that we were going to pick Ben to be on our team so Richard could help coach. He also explained briefly that Ben had a learning disability and we would probably have to pass up better players to pick Ben.

I ran the offense for our football team. Ben played offensive tackle for us. I can tell you that I knew nothing of Ben's history with his family or his battle with autism.

After reading your story I realized that I was blessed to have met Ben. I just didn't realize it at the time. Richard is a fine man, and Ben is a very special and gifted boy. I can't even begin to imagine the struggles Ben and his family went through and the determination and courage Ben has to overcome such an affliction.

I am printing the whole article so my 11-year-old daughter, 9-year-old son and my wife can read this triumphant story of Ben Rushin. Thank you for writing such a feel-good story and letting people in our community know that heroes live among us.
