As I read the report on state Sen. Jason Crowell's bill to end abortion, it was disappointing to read the Rev. Paul Kabo, a fellow Christian, describe abortion as a "woman's decision in her faith journey." I suppose the same description could be applied to adultery or any other sin, but a faith journey should lead us closer to God. Christ said there is no greater love than to lay down one's life for another, yet today, it seems to be conventional wisdom that laying down another's life is an act of love.

Kabo also stated it was up to the woman to "decide how she would respond to that pregnancy." If we are on a faith journey, the question is how are we going to respond to God's love and the gift of human life. To respond by killing a child in the womb is a rejection of the invitation to love. Christians should be open to that invitation. We should always be seeking God's help in overcoming the roadblocks in our faith journey, and seeking his mercy when we stumble.

And for all who have stumbled -- and we all have, mercy is abundant, but let's not call killing, or any other sin, just another decision.
