To the editor:
I enjoyed reading the articles about the wiffleball tournament that went on this past weekend. I am glad to see there are people who appreciate this great game. I and many helpers have hosted an annual wiffleball tournament in this area for what will be the sixth year now. We like to call it the Wiffleball World Series. This year's tournament will be Sept. 28-29.
Wiffleball is a game where you can combine the characteristics of our national pastime with the ambiance of your traditional backyard barbecue. It's where grown men can go be a kid for a weekend and still feel like they are in superb physical shape, when everyone who's watching knows we are all way past our prime. But who cares? There is no greater feeling than running around the bases like a 9-year-old boy, only to cross home plate out of breath as if you had just smoked two packs of cigarettes and desperately searching for a water cooler like a detective trying to find clues to a crime.
This year will be bigger and better for our tournament. We traditionally have eight teams. This year we will probably have 10. Teams have traveled from as far away as Potosi and Farmington for our tournament.
I hope you will continue to cover this wonderful sport, and more power to all the backyard bombers out there. Remember, Little Leaguers never die. They just grow old and play wiffleball.
