My family and I had the great privilege of attending the opening night of "Annie" put on by Mike Dumey and his cast this past Thursday. I must admit, prior to attending, a part of me may have questioned the amount of attention that this little junior high school production was getting. Wow! Was I wrong. The whole town was buzzing about "Annie," and with good reason! The performance that these seventh and eighth graders gave was nothing short of spectacular. It is events like this that make Cape Girardeau such a great place to live, work and raise a family. To Mr. Dumey and the entire cast of "Annie," thank you for interrupting our otherwise serious and hectic lives and making the entire town smile as a little girl finds someone to love her. I'm proud to be your mayor.

JAY B. KNUDTSON, Mayor, Cape Girardeau
