With reference to the Aug. 9 "Government care" Speak Out comment that said a lot of people on Medicare are happy with the government-run program: My experience with Medicare has not been quite so happy.

Upon becoming eligible for Medicare, my employer group insurance provider of 44 years automatically dropped my coverage as primary insurer. The result has been that my doctor's highly successful therapy of sublingual allergy drops that was covered by my previous insurer has been denied by Medicare even though this therapy would be less expensive for Medicare than the shots that it would approve. Bottom line is that instead of previously paying a $15.64 copay, under Medicare I pay $92 each time I need more antigens.

Having government bureaucrats making decisions that override doctor/patient care issues is only one of the things that gives me pause about trusting any government intrusion into my health care. There is no guarantee that if you currently have an insurance plan that you are pleased with that it will continue to be there for you if the government begins to compete with the insurance companies, especially with the government bureaucrats designing the details of the rules and regulations that are not yet disclosed.
