To the editor:
In response to the article "St. Louis-area firm retools DVD-copying software": I am happy to hear that your newspaper published the article about 321 Studios Inc. My fiance has worked as a Web developer for the company since July 2002. He was employee No. 50. Now the company has 300 -plus employees. Obviously, the company has grown tremendously in the past year.
In times of hard economic struggle, especially in the information technology and computer industry, it is nice to see a company succeeding and providing a wonderful work environment. However, if the products of this company are illegal, how can the company continue to grow and provide so many more stable jobs?
It should be a basic consumer right to make a backup copy of your child's "Finding Nemo" DVD. The multimillion-dollar movie industry will not lose money from backup copies. It is simply afraid of not making mega-bucks by controlling consumers' rights.
