Air festival

First by land, then by air. That is the story in Cape Girardeau this week.

The Great Race made its way to Cape Girardeau on Tuesday. Many vintage cars proceeded along a route from North Kingshighway to Broadway, with several Pit Stop Parties and welcome parties paving the way.

This was a large undertaking that took significant coordination. We're thrilled the Great Race came through Cape Girardeau. Thank you to all those who invested their time and resources.

With one major event finished, it's time to turn our attention to the air festival. After two years without a show, the Cape Girardeau Regional Air Festival is set to kick off Friday. The two-day event is expected to draw thousands of people.

The Commemorative Air Force World War II bomber B-25J "Maid in the Shade" arrived in Cape Girardeau on Monday and will be available for rides this week. A photo was published in Tuesday's paper, and a photo gallery can be viewed online at semissourian.com/multimedia.

Gates open at 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday. The shows start at 6:30 p.m. Friday and 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets are $5 at the gate or may be purchased online at capegirardeauairfestival.com.
