To the editor:The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed an energy package that includes a renewable electricity standard. It requires electric companies to provide 15 percent of their electricity from renewable energy sources by 2020.
We all should thank the House for taking this important step toward energy independence. But Congress still needs to pass comprehensive legislation to reduce global-warming pollution.
A large percent of all plant and animal species are at risk of extinction due to global warming. Congress needs to strongly consider two bill that have been proposed: the Safe Climate Act or the Climate Stewardship Act.
The loss of biodiversity on this beautiful planet could potentially negatively impact all of us. I am particularly concerned for the quality of life we are leaving to our children.
