If you attended the event last Sunday at the Red House Interpretive Center in Cape Girardeau, you saw a special piece of history: two ledgers documenting Louis Lorimier's sales at trading post in Vincennes, Ind., and Cape Girardeau.

The display and presentation was part of a series of events to be held this year marking the bicentennial anniversary of Lorimier's death. The 40 attendees at the event also heard presentations about Cape Girardeau's founder. The documents are now set to be digitized and placed on microfilm. Those who would like to view the digitized documents will be able to do so at a later date. The originals will be stored for preservation.

Special thanks to the donors who helped make the purchase of these ledgers possible. Cape Girardeau is rich with history, and having these documents available for viewing, both now and for generations to come, presents this area with a unique opportunity.

Among the other events to mark the anniversary will be a tour of Old Lorimier Cemetery on June 26 and the Red House annual Fall Frolic on Sept. 29. We hope you take time to attend one or more of these events and enjoy the area's great historical resources.
