We are in the joyous tax season again. Soon all those tax forms and payments will be due after long hours of preparation and wasted dollars to file the forms. Then we wait to see if we really filed the forms correctly or will we be audited by one of the 116,000 employees of the IRS.

There is a better way. It is called the FairTax and is just that: Fair to all. It is also simple, which would save the country somewhere in the vicinity of $225 billion for compliance each year. Most of the $8 billion of IRS expense would also be saved.

The FairTax is a progressive sales tax that is paid on spending for services and new goods above the poverty level. It eliminates the income, Social Security, Medicare, corporate, death and capital-gains taxes. The FairTax would be revenue neutral, and Social Security and Medicare benefits would remain the same.

This plan would encourage much needed savings, and savings plans would not need a tax mastermind to find the best plan. No more deciding between a Roth, traditional, 401(k) or whatever. Just save and spend it when you need it on education (any age level), retirement, auto, refrigerator or whatever meets you needs -- not the governments needs. And there would be no taxes until you spend it.

Before you say it can't be done, check it out at FairTax.org. Make April 15 just another day.
