Butterfly on a sunflower

The butterfly seen here is common and native to North America. It is called the spicebush swallowtail butterfly. It gets its name from a native plant called the spice bush.

The spice bush is the predominant host plant of the spicebush butterfly caterpillar.

This butterfly looks a lot like a butterfly called the pipevine butterfly.
