CHS math students earn top awards at Field Day

Cape Central High School students earned numerous individual and team awards during the Southeast Missouri State University Math Field Day competition in April, including 1st Place in Team Problem Solving. "We are certainly proud of all of the awards our students earned, and we are especially proud of winning the Team Problem event which calls for school teams to work collaboratively for several hours throughout the entire day of the competition. We have a Cape Central tradition of success in this particular event, and our kids take great pride in keeping this tradition alive year after year," said Tracy Lohmeier, CHS mathematics teacher.

Awards earned are, Algebra 1, 2nd place: Rachel Juhlin; Word Problems, 1st place: Alex Gentle; Exponential and Log Functions, 2nd place: Vikas Rudrappa; Geometry, 1st place: Riley Knight; Probability, 3rd place: Josh Greaser; Number Theory, 3rd place: Samartha Shrestha; Elementary Data Analysis, 2nd place: Emily Weisenberger; Non-Routine Level 1, 2nd place: Jack Bagley, 1st place: Samartha Shrestha; Algebra 1 Team Event, 2nd place: Rachel Juhlin, Taylor Shivelbine, Will Shivelbine and Caleb Ambler; Algebra II Team Event, 2nd place: Samartha Shrestha, Alex Gentle, Emily Diamond and Melissa Hopkins; Geometry Team Event, 2nd place: Jack Bagley, Riley Knight, Reed Dickson and Rachel Williams; Trigonometry Team Event, 1st place: Vikas Rudrappa, Aaron Mehner, Alex Mehner and Sydney Messerli; Problem Solving, 1st place: Cape Central High School. Math teachers at CHS include Mary Shelton, Donna Martin, Tracy Lohmeier, Cheryl Sebaugh and Rachel Sprandel, team coordinator.
