Thread Painting Speaker

Karen Linduska

Artist Karen Linduska will be the special guest for the River Heritage Quilt Guild's May meeting. Her program will be "Painting with Thread" . Karen works at Calico Country quilt shop in Carbondale, Illinois. The meeting will be

held at the Cape Girardeau Public Library starting at 6:45 PM.

Ever since Karen was a little girl she was always making something. She started doing fiber work at the age of eight making doll clothes and knitting. At the age of ten she started to do beadwork and embroidery. In high school she was lucky to have an art teacher with a fiber arts background who helped her to branch out and explore new materials.

She attended the University of Colorado and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale majoring in fiber arts, studying under M. Joan Lintault. It was there that she was encouraged to explore even more techniques, materials, and ideas.

Her newest work is a series called Fantasy Garden. She starts with white fabric that is painted; using a layered technique of acrylic paints, stamps, inks, pencils and markers. She then does highly detailed thread work, painting with the thread to create botanical images. These pieces are very colorful and fun. During the past thirty years she has received numerous awards and recognition for her work which has been exhibited in publications, art fairs, galleries and private commissions all over the United States, Japan and Europe.
