Perryville Valedictorian and Salutatorian

At the conclusion of the Profiles in Excellence Ceremony held on Sunday, May 16, the names of the PHS Valedictorian and Salutatorian were announced. Taking the top spot of the 2010 graduates is Caitlin Schamburg, daughter of Steven and Deborah Schamburg. Named Salutatorian is Mia Pohlman, daughter of Paul and Jane Pohlman.

Caitlin is the sister of Tyler Glueck and the granddaughter of James and Peggy Cissell and Marion Schamburg and the late Paul Schamburg. While in high school Caitlin Schamburg was involved in band, jazz band, cheerleading, Friends of Education (Executive Board Member - 12th Gr.), FBLA, Foreign Language Club (Vice President - 11th Gr. and President - 12th Gr.), DECA, and National Honor Society. Caitlin has been awarded the Regents' Scholarship from Southeast Missouri State University, a $1,000 Missouri Cheerleading Coaches Association Scholarship, and the $500 Nancy Reisenbichler Excellence in Business Scholarship. Caitlin plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University to major in accounting.

Mia is the sister of Luke and Phoebe Pohlman and the granddaughter of Roy and Audrey Pohlman and the late Barney and Philomena Baer. While in high school Mia was involved in the National Honor Society (Gr. 11 and 12 and President, Gr. 12), varsity band (Gr. 9, 10, 11, and 12 and alto saxophone section leader, Gr. 12), Concert Choir (Gr. 9), Chamber Choir (Gr. 10, 11 and 12 and alto section leader, Gr. 12), Scribe Society (Gr. 9, 10, 11, 12, and Treasurer and Secretary, Gr. 10, Vice-President, Gr. 11, and President, Gr. 12), Youth Alive (Gr. 9, 10, 11 and 12), Postponing Sexual Involvement Teen Leader (Gr. 11 and 12), Foreign Language Club (Gr. 11, President), Silver Dagger Players (Gr. 9, 10, 11 and 12), and SADD - Students Against Destructive Decisions (Gr. 9, 10). She also attended the 2008 Missouri Scholars Academy during her 10th grade year.

Mia is a freelance writer for the Southeast Missourian Newspaper where she writes a monthly column about her senior year of high school and will write a monthly column about her freshman year of college.

She is an altar server at the St. Joseph/St. Maurus Church and was a member of their Youth Group in grades 9 and 10.

Mia has been offered the following scholarships: Truman Leadership Award, Truman Week Award, Bright Flight Scholarship, Southeast Missouri Superintendents' Association Scholarship, Missouri School boards Association John T. Belcher Memorial Scholarship, Robert and Olene Heflin Memorial Scholarship and the Perryville Elks Lodge Scholarship. She plans to attend Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, to pursue a Bachelor's degree in English and Master's degree in Education. She also plans to minor in photography.
