A dog park established in 2013 and Discovery Playhouse, launched in 2010, are two examples of LC team-developed ideas that became reality...

'Almost' is a loaded word
(Column ~ 09/09/23)
A week ago or so Marge and I were listening to her Bible devotion on her cell phone, which she listens to daily. The devotion was the story of Paul talking to King Agrippa. Paul explains to King Agrippa the message of the Gospel, which is the power to forgive one's sins and live a life for Christ. King Agrippa later on states that he was "almost" persuaded. King Agrippa isn't mentioned again in regards to the Gospel message so really doubt he was ever persuaded to become a Christian...

Did I visit the ocean?
(Column ~ 09/09/23)
From the looks of this picture you might think I've gone deep sea diving. That's not the case. I found this grand looking thing that looks like ocean coral growing in the woods right here in Southeast Missouri. This is a native fungus called crown-tipped coral mushroom. Its main function is to digest dead wood that lies underground, causing the wood to rot. Crown-tipped coral fungi can show up in the same spot in the woods for several years...

A growth mindset, on the other hand, is fluid, seeing the previous essentials as adaptable. Your capacity to develop a growth mindset can be the difference between breaking and thriving. Especially when responding to change...

Haley has the right idea
(Column ~ 09/09/23)
Politics is the absolute worst lens through which to look at abortion. And yet, when we talk about abortion, it's almost always about the political aspects of it. Nikki Haley led the way during the first Republican primary debate...

Vote with facts, not emotions
(Letter to the Editor ~ 09/09/23)
A good friend told me many years ago, the human is the only animal God created that could be "skinned" more than once. Since that nugget of truth was shared with me, I've witnessed this "skinning" numerous times. Why do we continue to accept misrepresentations as facts? Why do we continue to allow others to take advantage of and lie to us? Why do we allow ourselves to be "skinned" over and over again even when we know better?...
