Fred Lynch
Fred Lynch retired in 2018 after capturing images for the Southeast Missourian since 1975, in that time moving from black-and-white to color, from film to digital and to video. The blog title is a nod to an earlier era of news photography and the 4x5 Speed Graphic: It's more important to be there for the shot than to worry about technical details.

Louise Gross is candlemaker

Nov. 30, 1963 Southeast Missourian

Everyday equipment such as water buckets and discarded cans are the tools of candlemaker Miss Louise Gross. Her workroom is in her basement because “you get wax on the floor,” she finds. The Craft and Candle Shop grew out of her hobby. Among her creations is one that “burns at both ends.” She makes about 500 candles a year, some to order. And because each one is different, she feels it always is a challenge and a pleasure. (G.D. Fronabarger photo)
