If you attended Cape Girardeau's fireworks display or the demolition derby, or any of the events this July Fourth, we hope you enjoyed the festivities. The city of Cape Girardeau no longer funds a fireworks display; it was cut in 2009 when the budget was tight. Since then, the USA Veterans group has organized the events and put on the show.

The entire celebration is funded by donations and staffed by volunteers. Club members spend months obtaining funding, vendors, licenses and volunteers, and marketing their Fourth of July events.

Because the Fourth fell on a Wednesday this year, the celebration was pared down to one day. In the past, the group put on multiple day events such as live music, tractor pulls, "redneck games" and more.

We salute the group for all of the work that goes into the celebration. Thank you.

To make a donation or volunteer with the USA Veterans, contact secretary/treasurer Cathy Ring at 512-560-5886 or ringleader309@gmail.com, or mail the USA Veterans at P.O. Box 840, Cape Girardeau, MO 63702-0840.
