On behalf of Old Town Cape, we want to thank all of you who made this season's Tunes at Twilight such a success.
The rainout of our last show was especially unfortunate, given the high interest Lil' Dave had generated in the community.
For those who missed him, he will be back in the area this November.
Some may be wondering why we were unable to relocate the show to Rose Theatre, our indoor venue (thanks to the Southeast Missouri State University Communication Department for making it available).
Given the logistics involved, it is impossible to move the show once a decision on venue has been made. We make our call about the rain site at 4 p.m. the day of the show. It takes about two hours for setup and sound check, so once we are set, time does not allow us to take down the stage, move the equipment and reset in another venue.
Because so many people wanted to see Lil' Dave play, we opted for an outdoor venue to accommodate more people. We will try to get Lil' Dave back in a future season of Tunes.
Despite the rainout, this has been a great season.
If you get a chance, thank the sponsors whose support allows us to continue to offer free entertainment. Financial support from the Bank of Missouri and Coad Family Dealerships, along with a grant from the Missouri Arts Council, allows us to pay the musicians. Shivelbine's Music has been a steadfast supporter, providing all our sound equipment and technical assistance via Jerry Lomax. Stooges Restaurant in Jackson gives our Tunes performers a place to play Thursday nights so they are in place for the early morning interviews on Friday morning on KFVS. (The crew of "The Breakfast Show" has been wonderful.) The Southeast Missourian and especially features editor Chris Harris have been invaluable in keeping everyone posted about upcoming events. And KRCU features Tunes artists throughout the season on Alan Journet's "Musical Meander."
Finally, thanks go to Cape's civic-minded businesses who display our posters, promote our events and occasionally feed our artists. We got a number of post-concert meals from the Mediterranean restaurant.
Tunes is truly a community event, and Old Town Cape appreciates those who come out week after week and go out of their way to make our guest artists feel welcome and comfortable.
See you next season.
