I JUST wanted to say that I think it's disgusting about people wanting to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday when there are a lot of other people who have accomplished a lot more and their birthdays could be celebrated. You don't hear anything about them wanting to be celebrated. I think this deal with Martin Luther King, Jr. is blown out of proportion. Thank you.
WELL, CLIFF HILL is leaving us. I knew we wouldn't get to keep him long. He is a class act.
I WAS JUST wondering why all the new lights they put up along Kingshighway and by Kingshighway and William intersection are old yellow lights when all the other lights are bright lights. They put up all these new ones and they're a dingy yellow. I think you should have them all match and make them bright. Thank you.
THE INSURANCE OFFICE at Broadway near Kingshighway is just beautiful with the lights and pretty displays. Christmas is a time for sharing and this certainly is a demonstration of that. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
I AM A handicapped senior citizen and I'd like for you to know that I agree completely with Mr. John Martin. I don't know what words Kenny Newton objected to, but in my opinion there are no words too bad for an able-bodied person who would park in a handicapped parking spot. In the first place most of these stores do not have enough handicap parking; they have two, maybe four, and a lot of times they are full of absolutely legal handicapped people. On the other hand you see cars parked in them that absolutely have no tag and no license. I just don't understand how anybody can do such a thing. The handicapped places at the rear of Penney's store are plainly marked, and underneath each handicap sign it says $10 fine. I don't know if there are others like that around. If they're here I haven't seen them, but you don't ever see a car parked there that does not have a handicap tag. Thank you.
SEVERAL OF US who golf at the Cape Jaycees golf course would like to thank Al Spradling and Mary Wulfers for their support. They are absolutely right; that golf course needs a professional manager in the worst way. The salary that they pay such a manager could be easily recouped from the savings that would result.
THIS IS TO the person who called in saying they think Speak Out is one of the stupidest things a newspaper could print. Well, for one, I enjoy Speak Out, and if you don't like it no one says you have to read it.
I JUST WANT to thank the person who stopped on Interstate 55 today. We had a minor car wreck and our daughter was choking. He helped get her throat unclogged, and by the time we got straightened around we realized he moved on and we didn't get a chance to say thank you. So I'm saying thank you now.
I AM CALLING in response to the person who stated in Tuesday's Speak Out that senior citizens think they should get everything free or at a discount. If this person would have attended the meeting in regards to raising fees at the Jaycees golf course they would have learned three proposals were made. The first proposal was to raise the regular annual fee $50 and senior citizens fee $120. This made the senior citizens mad. The second proposal was to raise the regular fee $50 and the senior citizens fee $85. Still not acceptable. The third proposal was to raise all fees $50. This was acceptable to the senior citizens, as all we want is an even break. Thank you.
I WOULD LIKE to thank God for our Christmas wish come true. One elderly couple still have the Christmas spirit of loving all of God's animals no matter what they look like. After many days one of my lost-and-found notes was read by the right person and we got back our dog for Christmas. Miracles still do happen after all. It was very joyful to see him and bring him back home. God bless you and thank you very much for taking care of him and giving us the best Christmas present ever. The Christmas spirit still does live. Thank you.
I WOULD LIKE to reply in reference to the person who called in referring to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday. I noticed this person listed names such as Madison, Jefferson, Franklin and Washington. Let's take George Washington, who was a slave owner, and only wanted his slaves freed on his death. Dr. King was for nonviolence, peace and harmony among all people, black, white, blue, green, orange, pink, or purple. You know, I think it's pure idiotic for somebody to keep griping about a man who did so much for this country. Twenty-five years after the man was assassinated by some racist group he is still being crucified. Thank you very much.
I THINK EVERY town ought to have two newspapers, but it doesn't seem that Cape can support two of them. That way the public would get opposing views and be able to form their own judgments. In view of this I think that Don Pritchard is a good substitute for another newspaper, and I don't think that Peter Kinder on KTXI last night showed himself to his best advantage by nitpicking Don Pritchard. It was kind of pitiful that he can't take the heat. Thank you.
The program referred to, "Behind the Headlines", was on Channel 13 (cable), of course, and not on KTXI, which is a radio station. Why didn't you call in? We invited responses during the entire hour. We're more than willing to "take the heat." PDK.
