I SEE MARY "Cares" Wulfers is at it again. When will it end? I do not think that any council member would or should use city taxpayers' money for chandelier-type lighting, especially at a cost of $6,200. What happened to Mary "Cares" Wulfers?

HELLO SPEAK OUT. I would like to send a message to the lady that bought my parakeet. I wish you would call me and let me know if they're doing alright and if you are enjoying them as much as I did. I loved them so much and I do miss them and hope they're doing fine. Thank you.

I JUST READ Ms. Adams' article in today's paper about the quake and she seems to be happy that it didn't happen so she could criticize those who were concerned. I wonder if she would have been on the other side of the fence had the quake occurred? I find the Southeast Missourian faulty for printing such an article.

I'M CALLING ABOUT the Adams article in the newspaper today. Mr. Browning didn't make New Madrid an earthquake central; the media did, you included. He stated there were three places in the latitude where earthquakes could happen. If you're going to print trash why don't you at least put a little bit of truth in it.

PLEASE, CAN'T THE Southeast Missourian stop writing about Dr. Stewart and Iben Browning? We read Gary Rust's views, then Peter Kinder's column with his views. When I read Ken Newton's column I thought perhaps the Missourian had said enough about those men; but, no, this morning I pick up the paper and there's another column by Joni Adams. Enough is enough. You blame those two men; a lot of us people put the blame on the news media, who ballooned this thing out of proportion all over the United States. Did it ever occur to you that we don't look ridiculous in the eyes of the world? The world has forgotten about us and the New Madrid Fault. It has far more serious things to consider such as war.

I AM APPALLED that once again our city council is going to approve a huge no-bid contract with the Chamber of Commerce for the tourism budget. Are we once again going to be spending more than $300,000 to count busses and to travel to Canada to special shows or are we going to use the money for a change to develop tourism attractions rather than advertise something we don't have? I think it's time the city council got off its duff and faced this issue head on, and stops making buddy-buddy decisions. Thank you.

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE with the comments of Don Pritchard in the News Guardian advertorial. From time to time I've called in to complain about the actions and attitude against Gene Rhodes. Frequently Gene Rhodes has been criticized by the newspaper and by other council members. Not once has Gene been commended for his stand on issues such as Interstate 66, better east-west highways, and a number of other things that have made sense for the city of Cape Girardeau. I know that the comments were not printed because I watched carefully. He doesn't happen to be in favor with the Missourian, so those comments are excluded to give an all-out attack against him and to attempt to intimidate him. I believe it's time that Pritchard's column be printed so that the Southeast Missourian will quit editorializing in the Speak Out column.

You are wrong in saying that the comments were "excluded to give an all-out attack against him and to attempt to intimidate him." Speak Out has never taken such an attitude toward anyone. If your comments were not published, we assure you it was for reasons other than those. If you would like to discuss it, call our newsroom at 335-6611, and ask for the Speak Out editor.

THANK YOU, JONI Adams for telling it like it was. Our local television station bears a large burden of responsibility for the anxiety caused, especially for our young children.

HELLO. MY SPEAK Out comment is directed to Mrs. Mary Wulfers of the Cape Girardeau City Council. I have lived here in Cape Girardeau all of my 28 years of life, and I am very comforted to think that someday this community will be blessed with having you as our city mayor. I have a great deal of admiration and respect for you, Mrs. Wulfers. You say what you feel and think of the common citizen's viewpoint. I am so tired of attending city council meetings and watching on television to see Gene Rhodes and Ronnie Fischer pass the buck and not stand up for the people of Cape. I feel it's time for a change in city government. Mrs. Wulfers, if you ever wish to run for mayor in an election, I will be your best campaign promoter. Thank you.
