I'VE BEEN reading about the radar control on Mount Auburn Road. I go to work at about 6:30 in the morning, and I don't ever see a police officer doing any radar on that road, which is fine. I would like to suggest a radar patrolman for Hawthorne Road, with the ballparks and all the traffic that goes by because of the daily practices. There are a lot of speeding cars...

Where's the radar?

I'VE BEEN reading about the radar control on Mount Auburn Road. I go to work at about 6:30 in the morning, and I don't ever see a police officer doing any radar on that road, which is fine. I would like to suggest a radar patrolman for Hawthorne Road, with the ballparks and all the traffic that goes by because of the daily practices. There are a lot of speeding cars.

Thanks, Guard, Corps

I WOULD like to thank the National Guard and the Corps of Engineers for all of their help in Commerce. My parents live on a farm, and daily you checked on them. I appreciate this very much.

More thank yous

I JUST wanted to call and say thank you to two Advance women who let 15 girls and eight parents from Delta softball team into their home to take shelter from the terrible storm. Several parents and 15 girls were caught on Highway 25 right in the middle of the storm. We all pulled off the road into these women's drive. They came out and took all of us into their basement.

Goodbye, Del-Farm

I WOULD like to say goodbye and thank you to all the people who have worked so many years at Del-Farm. You all will be greatly missed. It's not going to be the same going into that store and not seeing you all there. We who regularly shop there appreciate all the things that you have done for us in the past. You have always been helpful.

Be proud of Clinton

I WISH we would all be proud of the job that Bill Clinton is doing despite all the criticisms of the Republican Party, especially Newt Gingrich and Bob Dole. Bob Dole and Oliver North would make a dangerous team for president. Dole wants to clean up the movie industry. No one needs Bob Dole for president.

Baseball field woes

AS PARENTS of 9-, 10- and 11-year-olds, we pay for our sons so they can play baseball during the summer. Wednesday night the games were called off because they didn't want fields messed up for Saturday night's Riverfest tournament. The leagues should come first. The fields were perfect for playing, and they still had two full days to get ready for Saturday. What a disappointment for about 100 boys and the coaches who work so hard with them.

Mailbox vandalism

WHOEVER IS vandalizing and stealing mailboxes on Country Road 638, we want you to know that this is a federal offense. We have notified the postal inspectors and have signed a complaint at the county sheriff's department. If we catch you, we intend to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.

Mayor should go

MAYOR SPRADLING should go. He is of the old city council that the taxpayers had so much trouble with.

Raising taxes

WE DON'T need a transportation tax. Just let the city council do its thing: Raise taxes, raise taxes, raise taxes.
