Municipal court

YOUR front-page story on Cape's municipal court just shows it has become a city money maker where true facts of a case do not enter in. My stopped car was run into by a woman looking down at a baby in her arms. The cop didn't see the accident and was sure I was much more able to pay the heavy fine the judge levied without considering the true facts. Many years ago I was arrested for entering an intersection just as the green light turned yellow. The judge dismissed the case because it was impossible for me to stop, and the two cops who arrested me trailed me for weeks, until their chief stopped them. We had true justice then. Now we only have money makers who dispense with honest facts and just assess fines for Cape's finances.

Offensive cartoon

THERE IS a cartoon on the front desk at the library. It's about Calvin. He's calling the library to ask about books on how to make a bomb. I'm sure everyone that's gone to the library has seen it. It needs to be removed. I didn't get angry when I was there, because I didn't want to make a scene. Considering the Oklahoma massacre I would think everyone that sees that cartoon would be upset. Instead I got a ho-hum bored stare from about everyone that heard me, and nobody did or said anything. Please don't make fun of this by leaving that cartoon up.

Home-grown teachers

MANY FORMER students would love those teaching jobs in the Jackson schools. There are many qualified people in the district who need jobs. Some have graduated and come back home hoping to work in the area where their families are. There are those who faithfully do substitute teaching in the district who applied for jobs but didn't get them because they hire from outside of the community. If the district wants to keep community support, it should hire more from the Jackson area.

Support for country

I BELIEVE in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people whose just powers are derived from the consent of the government. A democracy is a republic, a sovereign nation of many sovereign states, a perfect union established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes. I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag and to defend it against all enemies.

Love of mothers

I WAS elated after I read Jay Eastlick's May 13 column. I knew if I kept reading his views long enough I would find common ground with him. And I have. We both love our mothers.

Budget advice

MY ADVICE to these self-righteous congressmen: If they want to cut the budget, start with them. Start with the upper class who has the most assets. Start with cutting their benefits and work their way down. For instance, why do they have to have such a big pension, why do they have to get it so soon? And make them pay for their full coverage of health insurance.

No grouches

I WOULD just like to say to the person who was complaining about a street and said it was like living in Burfordville: We don't have any grouches like that out there.

Cut foreign aid

THIS IS about the deficit and balancing the budget. Every time you turn on TV or pick up a newspaper, the politicians are always talking about what has to be done to balance the budget and/or reduce the deficit. To them it's take from the American citizens, cut Medicare, reform welfare and things like that. I've not heard one politician ever say anything about cutting foreign aid or any of the handouts that we're giving other countries every day. I think we should take care of our own people before we take on the world.

Police attitude

IT WAS with pride and admiration that I read the article of reduced income from traffic court. I see in this a new attitude and evaluation of what the police are to represent. They are public servants as any tax paid employee is. They're not tax collectors. It is with pride that I am calling Speak Out, and I thank you very much for the opportunity and congratulate the Cape police department.

Jackson concert

CONGRATULATIONS to Jackson High School choirs for the outstanding performance of their pop concert. It was a delightful evening.

JACKSON HIGH School should be very appreciative of their choir instructor and of the wonderful performance the high school students did at their pop concert last week. It was an excellent show and had very talented young people.
