Thanks for lights tour

IF YOU have made the ride from the mall for the Holiday of Lights tour, it's wonderful. Thank you, everyone, for putting it together for those of us who do not know our way around town. I enjoyed the ride.

Fed up with both

I AM extremely annoyed with the greediness of both KFVS-TV and TCI. KFVS broadcast can be picked up free by anyone with an antennae of any sort and can base its advertising charges on the number of TVs reached. So why does TCI have to pay? On the other hand, TCI offers such poor programing and raises rates so unreasonably, so why should it not pay KFVS-TV? Why doesn't TCI have the Learning Channel or the History Channel? Instead, we're getting another cartoon channel and some other trash. With a satellite antenna, I understand 150 channels are available. I'm fed up with both KFVS-TV and TCI.

More tax questions

THE EDITORIAL about county road paving and the response to the Speak Out county tax comment were way off base. Where did that $4 million come from? I suspect it was from county taxes, unless of course, if Cape County is formed in any Indonesia connection such as Bill Clinton's for the free flow of dollars. I also looked at my tax bill. One is titled personal property but the first tax listed is road tax. Also included in the manila envelope was a form titled, you guessed it, real estate and then again, the first tax listed is road tax. Looks to me like county residents do indeed pay real estate and road taxes. Perhaps the Missourian, rather than the residents, is confused.

REPLY: Cape Girardeau County doesn't have a real-estate tax. There are road-and-bridge taxes. Other taxing units, such as school districts and cities, impose taxes on real estate. These taxes show up on the bill issued by the county collector.

Snow means no cable TV

A LITTLE bit of snow and TCI is out for hours. I am so tired of this. Why can't we have a decent cable company in here? You know the satellite dishes are looking better and better to me.

Comments on comments

I'M CALLING about the two comments in Speak Out. One was about science and religion. For heaven's sake, of course science and God can co-exist. Science is just a tool that God uses. And the other comment was amazing. To state that now both the mother and child are dead because the child got a blood transfusion is utterly ridiculous.

No P&Z in the county

HOW MANY times do the voters have to give the county commissioners the message that we don't want county planning and zoning? Let's get the planning and zoning commissioners off the taxpayers' payroll.

REPLY: The new commissioners aren't paid. You might try talking directly to the county commissioners about your concerns.

We'll vote no again

I JUST read the article on county planning and zoning. Planning and zoning may not have the authority to prevent a landfill, but the EPA does and would. This scare tactic won't work. We voters are not idiots, and we will vote no to county planning and zoning again.

Where credit is due

I THINK the majority of the people of this country got their Christmas present on Nov. 5 in the presidential election. He's an intelligent man, level-headed. I think some of the stuff that they put on Speak Out is dirty and uncalled for. A man or woman who deserves credit should get credit.
