I JUST thought you'd like to know. In your little, short article about an attempted fire at the stripper bar. You called it a "mai tai" cocktail. I just wanted to let you know it is a Molotov cocktail, a can of gas with a rag in it.
YOU SAID in your editorial they should check the Democrats campaign donations. Why don't they check the Republicans also?
WE'VE ALL heard of the Great American Smoke Out, when people take a day to try to stop smoking across the nation. Evidently it saves a lot of lives in doing that. I would like to suggest that from Christmas Eve to the day after New Year's that everyone fight back against the sex and crime and the sexual activity and violence on television. It would be a wonderful thing if we turned all of our televisions off through that time and thought about doing something good for somebody, talked with our families, played games, thought about spiritual things and got our minds off the sex and violence. If the Smoke Out helped a lot of people, maybe this would get the attention of all those who are putting the sex and violence on television, that we don't want this. It's bad for our children. It's bad for us, and we need to do something about it. I suggest this Christmas the Great American Blackout of television.
I'D LIKE to say good luck to the reformed alcoholic who encouraged more people to quit drinking. Ditto. I've been sober for 12 years myself and life just gets better and better. God bless you.
A PERSON would have to be deaf, dumb and blind not to know the hazards of smoking, excessive drinking, a fatty diet and lack of exercise. The warnings are in the paper, on TV, on the radio, on billboards everywhere. OK, lifestyle police, you've made your point, I understand, I comprehend, I appreciate the information. I apologize for not being as obsessed with this stuff as you are, but you can take comfort knowing I got you message over and over and over again, year after year after year. Now, go graze in the backyard or run from here to Chicago or attend a BBA meeting. That's Busy Bodies of America for the less informed. Or do whatever makes you happy. Just leave me alone.
I JUST want to say that Pastor Barry Sansfield's comments on the church page in the Missourian were absolutely wonderful, and it's a sad, sad thing that more people don't realize that the birth of Christ is here and it's not all commercial. The churches are beginning to be more commercial, and this is just very sad. My compliments to Pastor Sansfield.
DID YOU read the leaflet enclosed with your latest cable bill? Along with other information, it states that unless you fill in and return this form, asking for you name and other information, that they are free do disclose information to advertisers and telemarketers, and give lists to commercial and charitable groups. Unless you return a signed statement that you do not want you name, address and other information given to third parties, they will start making it available to them immediately.
CAPE PUBLIC Schools, I will not vote for a 24 percent tax increase due to your new school situation that you want. I cannot afford it.
THESE PEOPLE who are calling in and criticizing Peter Kinder for his attacks against President and Mrs. Clinton are missing the boat. Special prosecutor Kenneth Starr is very close to filing charges against the first lady. The Clintons probably have been involved in numerous criminal activities during the past 20 years. Anyone who has studied the situation surrounding Richard Nixon and Watergate will know that it is very possible that we may be dealing with impeachment considerations in 1997. So, Peter Kinder, keep up the good work. Let's just let the truth come out.
I AM so tired of hearing how we should hold up for our leaders and speak kindly of them. I would like to know where these people were in the past when Reagan and Bush were being badmouthed and more recently with Dole for being an old man? We want leaders who are models for our kids, but the present leaders are far from being good role models. At least the past leaders were credible.
THE CITY really needs to look into a traffic situation at the corner of Mount Auburn and Independence. A three-way stop is getting ridiculous with the amount of traffic that travels at that intersection. A study is needed to decide if they're going to be able to put up a traffic light, something to help ease the congestion of traffic.
I WANT to comment about Sen. Peter Kinder. He has really helped our area and been a good state senator for our district. And I hope he continues to hold the Democrats' feet to the fire. Remember, it wasn't the Republicans that got us in this financial and lawless condition we find ourselves in. It was the Democrats. Sixty years of holding the House and longer, holding the Missouri statehouse. It's been the Democrats who got us in this situation, and I hope Kinder continues to hold their feet to the fire and tries to straighten this mess out. He's done a good job so far and we need to continue. Never mind these people hollering quit doing this and doing that. If we have any chance for a future, it's going to take someone like this who isn't afraid to stand up to the powers that be and stand for the truth. Otherwise, we're just going to lose our whole country, like it's happening right now.
I'M CALLING about the comment on same-sex marriages. What in the world do marriages of different races have to do with marriages of same gender people who want to get married because of a sexual preference? That is about the most ridiculous thing I've heard. It sounds like this person doesn't believe in God or what the Bible says or they wouldn't even make a statement like that.
YOU KNOW I read in the paper where a Scout leader was killed during a holdup in Kansas City. Well, with all the robberies going on in Cape on the elderly people, this is just the start of this business. When the government takes all these people off of welfare and they've got no jobs, the robbings and the killings are going to get worse. I don't know what's wrong with America that we have to sit behind locked doors, which really doesn't do us any good because they just kick them and come on in. We don't have anyone to help us. It just seems like we're totally alone.
