Look after the children

I'D LIKE to reply to a Speak Out message. I'm real pleased that there are some people thinking about little kids in this country instead of thinking of themselves. The Division of Family Services takes little kids out of homes that aren't fit for little pigs, and right away they start trying to rehabilitate the kids so they'll accept that kind of life. They don't do anything to the drugging parents. They take it out on the little kids. It's not the little kids who are brought into this world on their own. It's not the little kids' place to take care of their parents. They don't have food in their little stomachs when they go to bed at night. They get up in the morning with dried pizza crumbs that some drugged step-dad has brought in, and that's all they have to eat in the morning. They don't have clothes to wear, and I think it's a disgrace. The Division of Family Services should look at this thing, look at it hard and stop sending these little kids back into these places once they get them out. Keep them out of there, because it's not fit for little kids to live in. And the judges should do some thinking themselves. The judges are not doing their jobs either.

Problems with lawyers

PEOPLE should know how lawyers treat personal injury cases. I know how it feels to have a lawyer who you think is on your side, but you get suspicious of him because the only thing he can say at a hearing is that there are only 13 things wrong with you years after your injury. And you check into your case and find out that nothing has been done since January. When you call, he tells you he can't get your doctor to say the problem was caused from the injury. Well, I've got my doctor's reports, and I know what my doctor says, not only verbally but also in the report. Then you call the doctor's office and find out he has never been contacted once. That is one way to get him not to state the facts. Unfortunately, I've had to go out of this area to get a lawyer. With my health like it is, it's going to be hard to have to travel away, but that's the way it has to be to get the right representation. I just don't understand how they can do to people in this area when it has been proven what has happened, how it happened and everything and they do people this way. It's not just me. This goes on all the time.

Message about the unborn

TO THE person who commented about the crosses along Interstate 55. First of all, the land, materials and work on those crosses are all donated. Volunteers spent their personal time to make a statement to wake up the people of this world about the cruelty to the unborn or partially born babies. Abortion is an extremely serious issue. Until people start respecting life from conception to death, crime, abuse and disrespect will continue to grow in this world. We love and do more for children than you could imagine.

Impact of minimum-wage boost

I'M A small businessman. I employ six people. I can't afford $6.25 an hour or $7 an hour. At $6.25 an hour, that's a extra $480 a week that I'd have to pay out, not including the extra taxes I'd have to pay out. For you people complaining, that's $24,960 a year. I'd have to close down, and then they'd all be on unemployment, including myself. And also the people wouldn't be satisfied anyway. They'd still be poor because they'd still be at the bottom of the pay scale, and the price of everything will go up and nobody will be able to afford them. They're not going to accomplish anything by raising the pay scale, just make it worse.

Article on seat belts

I JUST would like to commend David Angier on his article about children wearing seat belts. My ex-husband does not believe in keeping our 3 year old in a seat belt all the time, and I'm going to send this article to him. I think it was very well said. You may even save a life. I just wanted to thank him.

Against the president

THERE ARE only two reasons why Americans will vote for Bill Clinton. Either they are politically ignorant or they want more socialism. Clinton is the most socialist president we've ever had. More than Franklin Roosevelt or Lyndon Johnson. His America is a nation with government controlling health, food and business. His administration will take your guns, legalize abortion and promote anti-Christian bias. Please save America. Don't vote for Bill Clinton.

Using child labor

I'M A business owner and I would just like to know: If I employed children as young as 6 or 7 in my business as salespeople and, instead of giving the commission directly to them, I would give it to their school, would that be legal under the child welfare and labor laws? Because that's exactly what these fund-raising companies are doing.

Biased against Jackson football

I WAS just calling to say I wonder why the Southeast Missourian is always printing bad things about the Jackson football team. Even though we're good every year and we always beat Cape, they just are jealous. They always have to print bad stuff about us even though they know we're good and they always set the odds against us. I would just like to voice my opinion and say I think this is very wrong, and they need to show a little respect.

Wasting our money

I JUST heard that the Community Caring Council of Cape Girardeau is having another Walk the Walk session. That is where they have so called volunteers that they pay $40 a piece to knock on your door to find out what you do for a living. That's all well and good, but what they don't tell you is that get their money for this wonderful program from the working taxpayers, you and me. Aren't there enough worthless government programs already. Shame on you, Rep. Mary Kasten. Shame on the Community Caring Council for wasting our money.

Not on my street

AS A resident of Jackson who lives on North High Street, I can say I do not want federal prisoners housed on the street on which I live. Say no to John Jordan and the commissioners on the jail issue.

They're not Democrats

THE LOCAL Democrats who have endorsed Emerson are not Democrats and should not be even linked or have their name linked with the Democratic Party. They need to join the column where they belong, the Republican Party.

Live with your vote

CHARACTER, MORAL values and trust. Vote your conscience. You'll have to live with it.

Must have deep pockets

WITH EVERY photo opportunity on his campaign trail, Bill Clinton is promising millions of dollars for pork barrel programs and causes. Whose pockets will this money come out of and whose vote is he trying to buy? Wake up, people. Who do you trust?
