THERE'S A lot of fuss being made right now about not having the money to hire an extra kindergarten teacher at Clippard Elementary. Washington has had an extra teacher for three years now. Provide another teacher

THERE'S A lot of fuss being made right now about not having the money to hire an extra kindergarten teacher at Clippard Elementary. Washington has had an extra teacher for three years now. She taught my friend's son's fifth-grade class, then his sixth-grade class, and this year she'll teach a first-grade class so that they will have a reduced class size in first grade. If they can come with extra money for this teacher, why can't they come up with extra money for another kindergarten at Clippard? Or why can't they hire an extra first-grade teacher over at Franklin where there was 30 kids in my little girl's class last year? Why do kids at one school get preferential treatment over another? It's time to stop this.

Pay more for priority mail

THE POST office is way off base on the proposed rate increase. On television ads, the post office brags that its priority mail one-day service is half the price of Federal Express, yet on the first-class postage they are raising the rate. Thirty-three cents is a lot to a poor person making minimum wage. I suggest raising the priority mail rate and let rich people who are in a hurry to have something delivered fast pay more instead of having poor people foot the bill.

No restitution is due

PEOPLE ARE crying and thinking we owe black Americans and Indians restitution for something that happened many, many years ago. I think they should stop crying and get on with their life, because it ain't going to happen, and nobody owes them a thing.

Trash charges out of line

WOULD EVERYONE who lives in Cape do themselves a little favor? Next time you get your sewer/water bill, look at it once. Perhaps you'll notice, as I noticed this last time, that it costs twice as much to pay for trash than for either sewer or water or, if you add the sewer and water together, you come up almost with the trash bill. And then say, what am I getting for this amount of money? And then, if you would do as I did, call your council person and ask, why am I paying as much for trash as I am for water and sewer combined? Something's out of kilter here. If enough people called about it, maybe an investigation would happen, and we might be able to get something a little bit more in line for what it seems like it ought to be for the services offered and the money spent.

Commerce is looking good

I WAS visiting friends, and I would like to comment on how beautiful and peaceful the town of Commerce is becoming. I think the mayor and council members have done a wonderful job keeping things clean. I've read that certain citizens were unhappy over how slow things were going, but it takes time to clean up after a buyout. I want the people in Commerce to know that it really looks nice. The citizens who are complaining should leave them alone and let them do their job.

Put restrooms near band shell

I THINK that the city of Jackson should build a bathroom around the band shell. There's one down below the band shell, but older people can't walk down the hill and you have to walk all the way across the park to go to the bathroom. They need one up there very bad.

Walt would be proud

MANY THANKS to the intolerance of Southern Baptists. Disney World will be a bit less crowded when we visit later this summer. Disney has unintentionally stumbled on a plan to keep out the judgmental riffraff. Walt would be proud.

Other postal solutions

WELL, I was just wondering. I heard the post office is wanting a raise on stamps for us lower-income people. How about raising the price on the junk mail and not getting so many holidays off for the postmen and all of this and they wouldn't have to raise the stamps?

Help makes a happy day

I WANT to report that I had a lovely day recently. Some lady saw me putting my groceries into my car from my grocery cart, and she just came up and said, "Let me help you with that because I know that's too heavy for you to lift." I just think that was so sweet of her. There are so many happy days when get things like that from our fellow citizens.

Child-support suggestion

THIS IS in response to the new child support law. I think that they should take their rights away instead of taking their driver's license away. In my case, the father doesn't come around but maybe once or twice a year.
