I WAS reading in the Missourian about the two street sweepers cleaning Broadway and Main Streets at 8 a.m. Why not clean around 6 or 7 a.m. when there isn't much traffic? There's no big deal, is there? WHEN THEY gave out the awards on the home decoration, everybody missed the house on Ricardo Drive. It certainly deserves an award...

Clean streets earlier in the morning

House of Ricardo Drive deserves award

WHEN THEY gave out the awards on the home decoration, everybody missed the house on Ricardo Drive. It certainly deserves an award.

Electric vehicles must be competitive

ELECTRIC VEHICLES sound great, but the bottom line is they have to be affordable by the general public and the insurance must be affordable by the general public before the general public can purchase an electric automobile.

Threat of lawsuits maintains silence

IF A teacher or anyone else had heard about Michael Carneal's plans or any threat about what he planned to do, the chances are that teacher or person would have remained silent and not reported it to anyone, because that person would have known that reporting it to anyone and action being taken would mean that Michael Carneal's parents and lawyer or lawyers would have been all over him or her like pond scum on stagnant water.

Leave holiday lights on a few more days

LAST CHRISTMAS holidays, my mother visited us from out of town. I had bragged to her about how our small town had the most wonderful decorations and holiday lights. Due to our busy schedules, we did not get to drive around to view the decorations on the homes until the day after Christmas in the evening, which was more relaxed. I was very disappointed to find out that almost half of the homes were dark. No one had bothered to turn the lights on, or perhaps they had taken them down in some instances. It would seem like the people who go to such great trouble to decorate their homes so beautifully could leave them up at least until New Year's so that people can enjoy a more relaxing time between Christmas and New Year's to view them. Are we now considering Christmas holidays between Halloween and Christmas afternoon?

Late-night truckers enjoy holiday lights

TO THE person griping about the Veteran's Home Christmas lights burning late and no one seeing them. Being a retired truck driver who's driven quite a few nights, there's a lot of truckers going up and down I-55 that really appreciate those lights. So vets, keep those Christmas lights burning.

Thanks for all the decorated homes

I JUST wanted to say thanks to all the people in Cape who have decorated their homes for Christmas. They are a joy to see.

Spirit still alive at Central games

I AM calling in regards to the Cape Central basketball season so far. I would like to give a special thanks to the guys who support the team. They are very qualified in doing the job, they are very clean young men. The guy in orange just makes me want to bring my kids to the game and show them how much spirit is still left in high school. I would just like to tell the Central High School team good luck this year.

School spirit helps the players

AS A fan for several decades of Cape Central basketball, I want to congratulate the new student body spirit that has been shown this school year. It is so encouraging to go to the games and see such enthusiasm and support. For so many seasons, the students have not always been in high attendance, and now they are very excited. I know it helps the players and shows the opposing team how much spirit we have here in Cape Girardeau. Rather than drive up and down Broadway wasting gas and causing wrecks, the young people are finally doing something productive and safe like we used to do. The administration should be proud of them.

Please bring back my dog

WOULD THE person who picked up my dog in the south Cape area please return him to me? He is a Yorkshire terrier and answers to the name Ralph. I'm blind and handicapped, and he's all I have. I am offering a reward for him. You may call the Humane Society here in Cape. Please return him to me.

State has too much money already

WHY WOULD the state of Missouri feel it's time now to reassess farmland and increase the assessment like they did on the businesses and the homeowners when they've got millions and millions of tax dollars that they collected illegally? They busted the Missouri Constitution when Mr. Carnahan put in a tax increase without letting the people vote on it after telling them if he was elected, they would be able to vote on any increase in taxes. They've got over $700 million of the Missouri taxpayers' money and still want to increase the valuation of people's property. Let's vote them all out, and Carnahan too.

Remember the holy reason for celebrating

I LOVE this season, the beautiful lights the people have decorated their homes for us to enjoy. The stores beckoning with their goodies. But please, let's make time to remember the day's true meaning: a holy and peaceful one, love in our hearts and peace on earth.
