I WAS very surprised that anyone would say publicly what one person said about the Republicans in your Opinion section. I believe it's called lack of judgment. However, the unapproved name is ignorance. I want to say to the Democrats: You have set the standard by approving the actions and conduct of Clinton that will go down in history which will destroy our great U.S. I have read four books and many printed articles on Clinton's conduct from the time he demonstrated against his own country until now. Democrats, how many books have you read? How many prayers have you prayed?
THIS IS in regard to the Speak Out comment about the noise law for dogs. The caller may like to hear loud noises and car music and the thumping music instead of a dog bark. I don't like either one. But if you want to listen to it, you just come down here in the 400 block of Benton. I'll guarantee you'll get all kinds of noise, and you won't like any of it.
I JUST read the comment in Speak Out about the worker who was injured and the contractor didn't have worker's comp coverage. Well, the same thing happened to me, and it cost me plenty.
I'D LIKE to make my comment known on the DWI offenders law that is about to come up for vote. I agree we need tougher laws for DWI offenders, but I have a question. Does this include our public officials, lawyers, doctors, clergy? To me this smacks of the same kind of half-thought-through legislation as sexual misconduct and the effect it has had on our military and the kind of mudslinging we all have been reading about, watching on TV and listening to on our radios. My point is this: If we arrest and put these people in jail, who would lock them up? How many of the judges drink and drive? How many of the law enforcement officials drink and drive? I don't drink, I don't do drugs and am well past middle age. In essence, this bill has good points, but now I suggest our legislators go back and work on making a workable amendment, one they can apply to not only the working public who are DWI offenders, but anyone else as well.
THE REPUBLICANS all say they voted their conscience on the Clinton affair: guilty. The Democrats voted their conscience too: not guilty. It's amazing how they all think alike, or are they told how to think by their party leaders? One thing about the pious Republicans, they seem to be owned by the tobacco industry and the National Rifle Association. Shame, shame.
I JUST want to say this about Social Security: Republicans want to change Social Security by allowing people to get 10 times the earnings by investing like they do down in Chile. They privatized their Social Security, and people are getting 10 times as much, plus their children can inherit what they passed on, plus they have life insurance out of this Social Security. It's time to change now. There's one party that will fight for the status quo. It wants government dependency and even bigger government. You can figure out which one. But I hope the party that wants to change it and make it better wins. I hope it can grow. And another thing, they could always let the people who want to stay with the government program. That's the way Chile did it.
THERE'S A large conspiracy in the news media to support Bill Clinton. First it was to get him elected. Had the news media acted responsibility in 1992 and reported all the facts pertaining to Mr. Clinton's character, it is likely he would not have been elected. But those were not reported or the things that came to light were given no credence. Then most recently with the impeachment, the press once again told us day in and day out how the public wants this and the public wants that based on the polls. Of course the polls are a result of questions being asked to people we don't know. Who are the people who answered these questions, and what questions were asked that allowed the pollsters to generalize the answer to be a support of Bill Clinton? A certain force in the news media has taken this approach, and basically it's controlling the outcome of this country, helping the Democrats to keep a scoundrel such as Bill Clinton in office. It's downright frightening when the news media is in charge of a conspiracy.
I LIVE in Jackson, and I've noticed over the past several months there's always one or two Cape Girardeau Police Department vehicles parked at the Missouri Veterans Home. Then a friend of mine told me he heard a conversation from the police chief and another gentleman from the police office on a radio station saying that those vehicles are parked there to help deter speeders. I hope Jackson does not ever do this. I hope they don't waste the money of taxpayers by purchasing vehicles and not using them. I believe these vehicles need to be used to patrol those areas. Please, Mayor Sander, don't ever take up this practice that Cape Girardeau's doing.
