County needs zoning
IF YOU have driven Highway 25 between Jackson and Gordonville, you have noticed the tacky businesses popping up everywhere. Now some of these property owners are cutting down trees to put up billboards. I think it is time for Cape Girardeau County to adopt zoning.
No direct answers
I RECENTLY attended Missouri Boys State in Warrensburg, Mo. Gov. Bob Holden gave the keynote address to the 944 citizens of Boys State, followed by a question-and-answer session. One thing I noticed was just how Holden avoided the point of any question. Not one time was he straightforward with an answer, always beating around the bush to turn the situation into what he has done for our state. If he had done what he said, our schools might not be cutting positions left and right. As state Rep. Rod Jetton so eloquently said, "We can't keep Holden on."
Need more like him
I DON'T know Doc Yallaly, but I admire him just the same. The world could sure use more folks like him. God bless you, Doc.
As God made us
REGARDING THE comment about women going half-naked to church. The caller said God didn't make us that way. God made us completely naked. Sounds like an idea to me.
Scott City recycling
THIS IS for the Scott City mayor and city council. Perhaps we would clean up their properties and the clear the vegetation from the ditches if we had a place to take that trash and vegetation. We need a place to recycle those kinds of materials here in Scott City. Maybe that could save us all some money in the long run.
Use I-57 bridge
THE MOST cost-effective way for the I-66 project to get traffic from Paducah, Ky., to Springfield, Mo., is to build the interstate along the existing U.S. 60 right-of-way from Charleston, Mo., to Springfield. To do this, build a short interstate across Southern Illinois from Metropolis to Cairo in Illinois. You wouldn't have to build any new bridges. There's no reason to route it north to Cape Girardeau. Take I-66 across the I-57 bridge.
Paying Iraqi soldiers
THE ASSOCIATED Press has reported that the American occupation government has agreed to pay the salary of 250,000 former Iraqi army officers. Even at a $1 a week, that's $1 million a month of your tax dollars at work. Can someone explain this to me?
It sounds good
I'M READING the Speak Out comment about the states that have passed concealed weapon laws. A caller says gun crimes have gone up an average of 13 percent in those states. That's contrary to things I've read in the past. I don't believe this caller has any proof. I think he's just pulling something out of the air to make his side sound better.
Still a pretty park
Capaha Park is still pretty.
