Food ministry

MY HUSBAND and I are senior citizens on a fixed income. We want to thank Christ Church in Cape Girardeau for the distribution of the Angel Food Ministry groceries. We get them once a month. I've heard there are some people who live close to the church who are trying to get the food ministry stopped. I don't think they know what Angel Food Ministries is. It's a nationwide organization that distributes food to help seniors and low-income families. We pay $25 a month for what we receive. But if we went to a grocery store for the same groceries, they would cost us from $60 to $70. It is a lifesaver for all us. I pray that Christ Church will be able to continue to distribute food for the seniors like myself and my husband and low-income families who need it.

Thanks for the help

I'D LIKE to thank with all my heart the two men from Ford Groves who unlocked my truck at Food Giant in Cape Girardeau. May God bless you both. Thanks again.

Disposing of butts

CIGARETTE BUTTS are nasty no matter where they are. If people have to smoke, carry an empty 35-mm film container with a little water in it. Put it in a pocket and put butts where they belong: in the trash. It's a win-win for all.

No to water park

MY CHILD and I went to the SEMO District Fair on Sept. 9. Not only did we witness a man throwing trash in a ditch, but numerous others that worked there followed suit. Also, we have a drought, and once again water is standing in the park. What happened to the storm drains? This is why I will vote no on any future taxes. A water park? Please. Some kids can barely afford the regular swimming pools.

Boxes for fair trash

IF THE city's going to allow parades, perhaps it should set up disposable boxes for trash. Business owners shouldn't to be left with garbage in their business parking lots. It was better when Cape Girardeau was called the City of Roses, because it inspired you to want to keep the city nice.

Basic teaching

ACCORDING TO a Southeast Missourian editorial, today's high school graduates need remedial classes in English, math and reading to enter college. Too much to teach in too little time, the school systems say. Could cutting out all the half-days of school help with this? Look at your child's yearly schedule. Add up the days canceled for meetings and grade reporting. You might be surprised. No sob stories, teachers. Everyone else works 40 hours a week, 12 months a year. School boards, are children's education not your priority?

Rights and respect

FELONS ARE carrying guns. They don't need any rights. How do you think they got to be felons? In regard to dogs at the fair, I saw much worse there this year. What has happened to our self respect?

Won't cost a cent

COME ONE, come all to the free-for-all. Health care free to everyone. Don't let the price tag fool you. It's free, free, free. It's not bigger government. It's free health care to all. It's not a leech to the worker. Its free health care to all. It's not breaking the backs of the middle class. It's free health care to all. It's not an entitlement. It's free health care to all. It's not taking back the tax break from the middle class but making the rich pay for free health care for all. It will cost you nothing except your vote on election day. Free, free, free. (Disclaimer: Only the lazy need apply as all able-bodied middle-class workers will be required to work harder to pay more taxes to provide for the so-called poor.)
