We are one set of the three captains who will be leading the 2014 National Corvette Caravan into Cape Girardeau, and we couldn't be more excited about our visit. Cape Girardeau is the last stop before we drive into Bowling Green, Kentucky, home of the National Corvette Museum. What better way to enjoy our last night on the road than a party on the banks of the Mississippi! Everyone at Cape Girardeau, from the CVB to the local car clubs, have made us feel welcome. Corvette Cape

Dress code

I agree with the comment about inappropriate clothing at doctors' offices. It is not just there. It is everywhere. People don't know how to dress anymore. If you buy a top that is too low, then wear a camisole or some other coordinating shirt to cover up all that exposed skin. Offices, including schools, should have dress codes for their employees, men and women. Rules don't hurt anybody. Too much freedom hurts people.

Priorities mixed up

By all means, give out free food, free backpacks, free clothes, free this, free that. Then the parents, or the should-be parents, can have more money for tattoos, piercings, gold grills, smartphones, etc. You know, all those necessary items, so other people can support their kids.

Unions, employment

Someone recently remarked that the union was good for America. Well, I'm recently retired. I worked all my life in the factories. Half the time union, half the time non. I would take nonunion any time. I think the union has put us in America out of business. Where are all the factories?

Fountain

The fountain at the courthouse needs to be cleaned out. It's very dirty.

Overgrowth

A few years ago Jeopardy asked the question: What is the location of the only known inland Cape in the U. S.? The answer was Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Many people come to Cape Rock from out of state and locally to look out over the Mississippi River and watch the boats travel up and down the river. But if the city parks department does not trim the over growth soon, no one will be able to see the Mississippi River at all.

Follow rules

As a parent of two teens and an area teacher, I was shocked when I read the article explaining that the two boys involved in the accidental shooting death of another boy at Kelly face "possible" suspensions. I am shocked because I cannot fathom any school district not having taken this action almost immediately after the event and doing nothing more than "considering" enforcing a rule that has: 1) been put in place to protect students and faculty/staff, and 2) been so obviously broken. If this situation doesn't call for a yearlong suspension, I don't know what does.

Gas cost

For the recent free fall in gasoline prices, thank you, President Obama.

Democratic ticket

At this point, I can't decide on whether or not in 2016 I favor a Clinton-Warren or Warren-Clinton ticket for the presidency.

Clean it up

I thought the city was supposed to be cleaning up the neighborhoods. Well, they sure haven't been in the Koch and Brink subdivisions, because, I'm going to tell you, tall grass, trash in the yards, garbage setting out on the street a week at a time. I don't understand it. I really don't. And also, there are cars that are parked on the streets sometimes for three days at a time. I would like to see something done, please. I've lived in this neighborhood for 44 years, and it is worse than it has ever been.

Obama credit

You know, when George W. Bush was president of the country, I couldn't stand the guy. I thought he was the worst president we ever had. In fact, I still don't like the guy. But I gave him credit for the things he did do right. At 9/11, I stood behind him, as did a lot of Americans. And AIDS, how he helped conquer AIDS in Africa. It didn't work well, but his plan to help education in America. It needs some tweaking, but it shouldn't be done away with all the way. And when the financial crisis hit, he did some good things. He started the ball going. But, you know with Obama, the Republicans don't give him credit for anything.

Health care ed

I read with great interest the article by Ruth Campbell about meeting the local demand for health-care professionals. It was well written. However, her story was incomplete. There is a local college that has been providing well-qualified health-care professionals for more than 20 years. And Metro Business College was not mentioned at all in this article. Students are taking their places in the medical field after completing their 200-hour externship, even before their actual graduation ceremony.

Obama fundraising

I'm just wondering who was paying for all these fundraising trips President Obama's taking and who's benefiting from them. I'm sure the taxpayers are paying for them. I wonder how much each trip's costing.

Impeach president

The other day, I heard on the news talking about impeaching the president. And they said that would be hard on the country. But keeping him, isn't that hard on the country?

Well done, Cape

I want to compliment the city of Cape Girardeau for the job they did on the repair, pouring the concrete to fill in with the concrete that needed to be torn out, on the road that goes by Clippard School, between North Kingshighway and Mount Auburn. And they did a job. It's smooth. It isn't holey, or isn't raised. Usually when they patch the street, they create a bump and later that would break down and there would be a hole again. But this is an outstanding job, and they should be thanked and recognized for it.

Stop the calls

Could someone tell me how to stop these annoying phone calls? First the telemarketing, and "your fifth and final notice on your interest on the credit cards." We have received our 105th notice and they're still calling. What ever happened to the No Call List?

Spending problem

Until our government officials, including our clueless president, start spending money like it is coming out of their personal bank accounts, we will never get our out of control spending back in check. We've heard Obama blame Bush for everything for years. Well, King Obama, the person who takes over after you will need God's help to straighten out the mess you have caused.
