How can the citizens of Cape Girardeau vote against the restaurant and sales tax? Visitors from all over the nation pay a good portion of the restaurant tax and 99 percent of the hotel tax.
I disagree with the person in Speak Out about Obama and gas. I don't think it's Obama's problem; I think it's Congress' problem. They won't cooperate on the gas prices. I also think it's about the selfishness and greediness of oil companies. It's a rip-off from the top down to us poor people who have to buy the gas.
We need people to sign a petition to take to the FCC about the programming on television. It's horrible.
I'm appalled at the not guilty verdict on George Zimmerman. He committed coldblooded murder.
Let me get this right. Zimmerman thought an unarmed, 17-year-old child was going to kill him with his bare hands? Give me a break.
I know everyone isn't happy about the George Zimmerman verdict. It could've gone down either way. I was upset about Casey Anthony, and we had to live with that jury outcome, too.
I'm really glad we have a Democratic president and governor. They are shining examples of the complete and total lack of respect for the Constitution they have sworn to uphold. Our president is constantly picking and choosing the laws he will enforce. Our governor is withholding millions of dollars in an attempt to thwart the legislative process as created by the Missouri constitution. I'm glad the Democrats are on display doing such crooked, horrible things to our Constitution and our rights.
The Jackson swimming pool is old and not in good shape. I would like the mayor and the city council to get with the architect who is preparing the new community center to have an indoor pool. That's something that could be used year-round and be very useful.
Dr. Wayne Bowen's Obama bashing entreaty on Egypt was less than elegant and woefully lacking in accuracy. Bowen would have readers believe that President Obama was responsible for the Egyptian revolution ousting Hosni Mubarak and installing the Muslim Brotherhood while not being aggressive enough in ousting the very regime he had installed. This kind of incredulity does not deserve the dignity of being afforded space on the Southeast Missourian's Opinion page.
I would like to publicly thank, again, the woman who helped me and my family at the Dairy Queen in Jackson. She bought our dinner because I forgot my debit card at home and she could see the panic in my eyes. I told her I would give her a check for her thoughtfulness and she told me just to pay it forward. Thank you again for your kindness. I won't forget you. You are a very sweet and giving person.
So, it's socialism for the big farmers and fend for own food for the working poor. The House Republicans passed a farm bill guaranteeing farm income that will cost the taxpayers $1 trillion. Wait. I thought it was Republicans who were so concerned about excessive government spending.
I was glad to see George Zimmerman acquitted. There was never enough evidence to convict him.
