Thank you

I wanted to say thank you to the young men from the Teen Challenge carwash who recently helped push my car from right in front of Sonic down to the Sears store so I could get it repaired.

Sign problem

I live in Jackson and I've noticed all these contractor signs stuck in yards. It looks tacky. I thought there was an ordinance against that. I wish they'd enforce it.

Rough travel

The intersection at Jackson's police station at Country Mart where the railroad track goes through is so rough it is going to shake someone's car all to pieces. It has been that way for a long time. In fact, I drive around another way so I don't have to cross over that roughness on the highway. Please get it fixed.

Deer contraception

It is ironic that the Cape Girardeau City Council passed a law making it illegal to feed a deer while Connecticut controls its deer population by feeding contraceptives. One is an amino contraceptive that prevents the female from conceiving. The other is a drug that prevents or delays the gestation period. I am sure our local veterinarians can supply these contraceptive drugs. In Connecticut, the herds are no longer a problem.

Turn lane

This message is directed to the city of Cape Girardeau and the Missouri Department of Transportation. I am over here on Bloomfield Road doing some business in Cape Girardeau and I notice that the turn lane on Bloomfield Road is at least two to three feet wider than the turn lane on North Kingshighway, which is traveled more than Bloomfield Road. When you park a regular pickup truck to turn left or right on North Kingshighway, your mirrors are actually sticking out over the yellow line. You have no space at all and people have to swerve into the other lanes to miss anybody in the turn lane. What kept a number of people from being killed or injured on North Kingshighway because of turn lane problems is beyond me, but somebody needs to do something about it.

Limbaugh honor

Rush Limbaugh is not a disgrace. I am a Democrat who doesn't care for a single thing he has to say, but I respect his right to his opinion and to his freedom of speech. If you don't like him, don't listen to him. Our state recognized his overall achievements, just as it did other Missourians. Do you know the history and views of all of the others who were recognized? I think if you did, you'd realize none of them are or were perfect and that you probably disagree with the politics or values of more than just Mr. Limbaugh's.

Sullivan column

Joe's column recently about the viewing was absolutely priceless. As long as Joe is writing, I will continue to take the newspaper.

Money in, money out

Some people, including at least one Speak Out caller, think that Greece is going bankrupt because it is trying to balance its budget. No, Greece is going bankrupt because they spent more money than they brought in. That's pretty simple. It's like if you spend more money on your MasterCard than you pay on your MasterCard. You are going to have a bigger bill. The United States and especially California and Illinois are going to have to do the same thing. We are going to have to cut our spending and try to bring in more money than we spend or else we are going to go bankrupt just like Greece.
