REGARDING delays on County Road 635 because of repairs: There were plenty of signs warning people of the work being done. Thanks to the road crew for such a great job.
REMEMBER the Cuban boat lift? We opened our borders. We got all those people, and Cuba sent all its criminals and convicts. We had no place to put them, so we put them in tent city. Crime skyrocketed. South Florida is still paying for it today. You go, Arizona.
THANK you, William Piercey Sr., for the "Our grandchildren's America" article. It is so true. People should read it.
THE Cape Girardeau Police Department needs to do something about the speeding down Kingshighway. Vehicles are going 60 mph and 70 mph. Somebody's going to get killed.
PLEASE allow me to put the ad promoting Notre Dame Regional High School and featuring Paul Nenninger, president of the Cape Girardeau School Board, in perspective. Imagine, if you will, an ad with Brother David, Notre Dame's principal, standing outside Central High School under the banner, "Come join us." Do you get it now? On behalf of the students, parents and alumni Central High School, we demand an apology or resignation from Mr. Nenninger for this outrage.
THANKS to virtually all members of Congress who voted to designate National Lab Day. I have three black ones.
Michael Jensen's column talks about people going hungry in the U.S. and how this number is increasing. This is a ridiculous. Everybody should be hungry before meal time. Look at the excess weight of our population. You can see that most people don't go hungry. I don't think we need to keep supporting people who are stuffing themselves with food and becoming overweight, which leads to other health problems.
AT least 38 of the 111 U.S. Supreme Court justices have had no prior judicial experience. Among those are two chief justices, William Rehnquist and Earl Warren, appointed by Republican presidents. Another who had no judicial experience was John Marshall. Lincoln appointed three justices with no judicial experience. Washington appointed three.
BULLYING is still a problem at Scott City schools. There is a difference between girl drama and being attacked or jumped in the halls, locker rooms or bathrooms. That is called violence, not drama. Where are the teachers when this goes on? The administrators have done nothing to correct this problem. Students who are constantly in trouble or causing trouble for others need to be in counseling. They are the ones who ruin it for the other students. I'm scared to think what has to happen before necessary changes are made.
CONTRARY to what doltish dunderheads claim about our taxes, a recent study shows that taxes as a percentage of overall income are at the lowest level since the 1950s.
I have relatives who are highly educated people, have children and value visits from a representative of Parents as Teachers. The constructive suggestions given are always welcome.
CAPE'S diversity of school systems is not a zero-sum, either-or game. All varieties of schools should be embraced and encouraged by a supporting public. Attempts to promote or undermine one at the expense of the other is counterproductive. The pettiness of it and the pitting of one or more schools against another hurts both school and community.
PEOPLE who complain that the Arizona immigration law will violate the rights of illegals living in that state have forgotten the Constitution. People here illegally are not U.S. citizens, and non-citizens have no rights.
SO we Missourians are going to vote to see if we like certain provisions of the new federal health care law. While we're at it, let's vote to see if we like the federal drug, crime, traffic, counterfeiting, bootlegger, bank robbing, taxing, air safety, civil rights, religious freedom, free speech, environmental or defense laws. This will not change the law and is a gigantic waste of our taxpayers money. It's about time we took a good look at the special interests of politicians in our state and what that costs us every year.
