Fire SEC workers

WHAT our elected officials in Washington, D.C., need to do is to demand that people who have not been doing their job in agencies like the SEC should be terminated. If they can spend eight hours a day watching pornography on their office computers, their jobs aren't necessary.

Thanks for help

I'D like to thank the man who helped me with my flat tire. His name is Sean Conway.

A newspaper story

A U.S. Marine was walking down a street by a zoo when he saw a little girl leaning near the lion cage. Suddenly the lion grabbed her by the collar and tried to pull her inside the cage. The Marine ran to the cage and hit the lion square on the nose. The lion jumped back, letting go of the little girl who thanked the Marine endlessly. A Southeast Missourian reporter watched the whole event. The reporter, addressing the Marine, said, "Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I've seen a man do in my whole life." The Marine replied, "Why it was nothing. The lion was behind bars. I saw the little girl was in danger, and I did what I had to." The Southeast Missourian reporter said, "I'll make sure this will not go unnoticed. I'm a journalist, and tomorrow's paper will have your story on the front page. So what do you do for a living and what political affiliation do you have?" The Marine replied, "I'm a Marine, and I'm a Democrat." The following morning, the Marine bought a paper to see if the news of his actions was on the front page. Sure enough, it was. It read as follows: "U.S. Marine assaults an African immigrant and steals his lunch." That pretty much describes the media's approach to the news these days.

Smoking employees

I'M an employer with 21 workers, I used to be a smoker, so I try to be objective, but this is what I've seen while watching my employees the last three months. Smokers take three to four times as many breaks as nonsmokers. That's time they're not working, and nonsmokers have to pick up the slack, I've watched customers as they come in contact with employees. They tend to back away from smoking employees, Nonsmoking employees have better success with customers. Smoking employees are out sick more often with colds and flu. I probably won't be hiring any more smoking employees. It just isn't worth it in a lot of ways.
