New era at Jackson

I AM a Jackson High School student, and this year's football team is very exciting. Someone in the paper said we are not the old team. Well, we are a new team. We are a new era of football. This is going to set the pace for the next decade of football. Bob Miller's comments about the Jackson football team were totally out of place. The past two weeks we have proved him horribly wrong, so I think Miller, if he is from Cape and enjoys Cape football, should go to Cape games and quit coming to ours. Week after week we are going to shove it in your face. We will see you at the TWA dome when we win the state championship.

This could happen

IF YOU want the junkers to take over Cape County, vote no on planning and zoning.

A 1 percent loss

ON ELECTION Day, I sure do hope Al Gore loses by just 1 percent -- the wealthy 1 percent.

No party labels

WHY DON'T candidates for political office identify their political party? It used to be the ads were clearly marked with Democrat or Republican or the symbol of the donkey and the elephant. Are they ashamed of their parties?

Punish all involved

I THINK the police are not doing their jobs, because all those boys are down there shooting in Indian Park. I think it is a shame somebody had to die over some ignorant people shooting at each other. All those innocent kids could have got shot. I think they all should be punished.

Overrated team

I JUST had a quick comment about Bob Miller's commentary about Jackson football. I coached many years in St. Louis. All I have to say is wait until playoffs. We'll get smoked by somebody in St. Louis. Jackson is totally overrated.

It doesn't cost much

RICHARD BRUCE is a prime example of the failing system in America. Mr. Bruce is so tight with his precious money that he can't give $19 to add on to the junior high school in Jackson. Think about it. $19 the price of 13 gallons of gas, a meal for two at a restaurant or just five car washes. Is this more important than the future of our children? I think not.

Other streets need work

IT'S BEEN over a month since the SEMO District Fair, and still no road work has begun on East Rodney Street as promised. Also, no road work has been started on New Madrid Street. Finally, while the new paving in the downtown area is wonderful and needed, it seems unthinkable that a major artery like Sprigg Street (from Bellevue to the Show-Me Center) has been allowed to deteriorate to the condition it has. It seems that some basic maintenance funds for roads ought to be in the general budget that are separate from the tax-issue funds. I hope money that was in the regular budget for roads wasn't diverted to other areas when Cape Girardeans passed the two road tax issues.

That's what they do

YOU HAD two related articles on the front page recently. One about coyotes and the second one about drug gangs. And neither one are surprising. Coyotes kill small animals every day and eat them. That is their purpose in life. Drug gangs go around with their guns and shoot each other. They sell drugs. They shoot anyone who gets in their way and tries to stop them. That is what they do. That is how they make their living. Why are we surprised that coyotes eat small animals and drug gangs shoot people? I would rather live with coyotes.
