THE low voter turnout in Missouri's presidential preference primary came at a high price -- an estimated $7 million for the election, or more than $21 for each vote cast. This at a time when Missouri is slicing funding for public universities and reducing its workforce in a struggle to balance its budget. Yes, you can see how the Missouri Republican legislators waste our money.
WHAT a great night for Southeast Missouri State University to shine. Murray State, national exposure and you can't even get down Broadway. Where were the police? Why were they not controlling the stoplights? It took me 15 minutes to get down two blocks on Broadway. Come on, Cape Girardeau. Step up. You want to be the big city and have the casino and the university, but you do nothing to support it. If we could at least have some police out here to direct traffic, people wouldn't be so annoyed.
I think it is time for Cape Girardeau residents to be updated on the Commander situation at the airport and how much money we are losing every day.
I live just outside the Cape Girardeau city limits. I have no problem with deer. I love to see them. They are in my yard every day and night. They've never eaten anything in our vegetable garden, fruit, fruit trees, flowers or our shrubs. I have more blooming flowers than any of you in Cape Girardeau. I feed the birds, turkeys, deer, rabbits, squirrels and any wild animal that wants to eat. You people in the Cape Girardeau city limits are heartless to consider letting people come in and kill them. Have you ever looked a deer in the face?
WHY are people being such hypocrites about birth control? If you want to have 10 or 15 kids, go right ahead. But it is funny how most of our Catholic friends just happen to have one boy and one girl. How ironic.
PEOPLE who are urging the city to work with nature rather than have an urban deer hunt need to study nature a bit more. We are trying to work with nature. Deer have a place in the order of things as a prey species. They breed so quickly because nature intends for them to provide food for other animals. Since we've gotten rid of the bears, cougars and wolves in the area, it is now up to humans to hunt them for the health of the herd and to complete the circle of life.
