Bullying club

I wanted to congratulate the students and staff that started up the anti-bullying Club. While already having a very good program to combat bullying, the counselor and teachers listened to an idea several students had and helped them take it from the idea stage to the implementation stage. They decided to enhance the already successful bullying program at school and let the students get the experience of leading, organizing and communicating a student-driven program that has further reduced bullying at school. Outstanding job, teachers, administrators and students. Way to work together.

Freedom to fail

I have had the freedom to fail in this country, and I think others should have the same freedoms -- such as the banks that we bail out and the corporations.

Obama presidency

BEFORE President Obama, houses were not selling. So don't pin that on Obama. Obama has kept his promises, especially to the gay community. Actually, Obama has done a good job as president. I would have never expected it out of him. He decided to make getting Osama bin Laden a priority, whereas George Bush didn't think it was that important to round up Osama bin Laden.

Obama, Catholics

I tell you what, you people of the Catholic faith better pay attention to President Obama because he is getting ready to change this deal with abortions and providing birth control. That's just the beginning. Wait until Obama demands that churches start hiring homosexual teachers.

Postal service

JUST a comment about the post office posting a fourth quarter loss of $3.3 billion in the paper. I keep seeing all these losses being posted and all the bills that are coming up for votes. When are the politicians and people in Washington going to get up out of their seats and stand up and do something for the people? We are talking about the postal service that almost every single person has used or does use every day, and they are just standing by and doing nothing. When are they going to stand up and take some action?

Dogs, people

I want to congratulate Carol Trankler for speaking out about the dog situation in this country. The way we've gone to the dogs is unbelievable. If these people who are such dog lovers would use that much time and affection on children, grandchildren and parents, how much better this world would be.

Greece, U.S.

IN Greece the government is deep in debt. The government can't figure out how to reduce their spending to balance its budget. People are rioting in the streets. Does any of that sound familiar? Yeah, two out of the three apply to the United States.

Gun registration

GUN control and registration are necessities in this day and age if it means finding out whose weapon was used to kill your mother, father, sister or brother. Unless you have something to hide, gun registration is not that big a deal. Just do it.

Voting photo ID

WE need photo IDs to be required for voting. You have to give a photo ID along with your Medicare card. So don't misconstrue the fact. Elderly people have to have a photo ID already. Let's not play that card.

City bill

I live in Cape Girardeau and just received my water and trash pickup bill. It is $25.80 more than it was last month, and it is only for 28 days. Can somebody please tell me how one person could make this happen?

Education cuts

WHAT a sad state of affairs. A decrease in education funding cuts has become the new education funding increase.
